Delhi is my home, I have always lived here. I
take pride in its history and am aware of the important role Delhi
and its people have in shaping the future of India. Today, Delhi
is home to some 17 million people. The city attracts talented men
and women from all over India and they set up permanent home here.
I am one of those who believe that Delhi is everybody’s and all
people, regardless of cultural or religious background, are
welcome here. I want to see the day when Delhi gives equal
opportunity to all to grow and flourish. We, as Delhiites, must
hold out a model for civil society traditions, environment
friendliness and clean, corruption-free life. Delhi must be
regarded some day as a “world city”, not just in terms of
infrastructure and amenities, but also as a home to all people.
The only aliens would be crime, prejudice, chicanery and avarice.
Years of indifference towards the common good have resulted in
creating a psychological distance between the people and their
larger common good. We must give Delhi back to Delhiites. Involve
the citizens in making their city a paradise. |
